Spring into Balance: A weekend of Yoga, Meditation and Ayurveda with Beccy Stevenson and Matthew Ismail
Winter can be a long and painstaking season. During this cold, harsh season it is easy to fall into habits and feel a little stuck or congested. During this weekend immersion, we will work to remove that stagnation, bring back vitality, and find a sense of balance, renewal, and purpose.
The weekend will consist of all-levels yoga and meditation instruction. There will be a focus on Ayurvedic concepts as they pertain to the end of winter and the dawn of spring. Learn what your dosha (Ayurvedic body type) is, how to stay in balance, and activate your true potential.
Yoga teachers attending all sessions will receive 6 contact hours of continuing education through Yoga Alliance.
Start 2019 with presence, purpose and balance....We will start with a 60 minute all levels slow flow yoga class, followed by a 45 minute Yoga Nidra. Nidra is yogic sleep....a state of consciousness between waking and sleeping. The body is completely relaxed in savasana and guided meditation is used to systematically increase awareness of the inner landscape. Practitioners of yoga nidra report better sleep, less tension and anxiety and overall improvement in relationships to self and others. Join us as we begin the New Year with clarity, calm and community. Absolutely no experience necessary. (There will be a 15 minute intermish after Yoga before the Nidra if you want to do one or the other....)
For thousands of years, yoga was a spiritual practice that employed both meditation and the physical postures we now associate with yoga. It is only recently that yoga came to be defined primarily as a workout. Please join Beccy Stevenson and Matthew Ismail for a Reuniting Yoga Workshop at The Yoga Cave. In this workshop participants will:
Learn about yoga as a spiritual practice
Combine postures from Yin Yoga with a meditation practice
Learn about the Chakras
We look forward to helping you to deepen and extend your experience of yoga!
During Reuniting Yoga…Part 1, Matthew Ismail and Beccy Stevenson teamed up to combine postures from yin yoga with guided meditation. This proved successful in illustrating yoga as a spiritual practice and experiencing chakra based energy shifts in the physical body. Part 1 covered the first 4 chakras, now Part 2 will be based in chakras 5, 6 &7. A perfect opportunity to dig deeper into an already existing practice or learn something completely new. Attendance at Part 1 NOT a requirement for Part 2.
In this 2 hour workshop, chakras will be discussed, why they are important and how crystals tie in with their unique healing properties. The discussion will be followed by an all levels yoga class based on what we have learned, weaving crystal healing and chakra theory into practice.
Come to Gather on June 20 at 6:30pm to learn about the healing properties of crystals. I will lead a discussion on the history of crystals, how/where to purchase, how to purify/recharge them, their healing properties and so much more! I will teach you about my favorite and most useful crystals and then the talented and ridiculously creative Stephanie Baker will assist in creating a necklace with the crystal(s) of your choice.
Join us for this Beginning Meditation Workshop. The very basics will be covered. This includes relaxing the body, mindful noticing of the body, breath, sensation and thoughts, using breath to focus inward and simple mantra. No experience necessary. Bring a journal or notebook and wear comfortable clothes.
Matthew Ismail is a meditation teacher and life coach who trained in Inner Yoga with David Harshada Wagner. Matthew believes that classical meditation remains profoundly important in modern society, but it must be relevant to people with families, careers, and mortgages. Matthew has MA degrees in Middle Eastern History and European Intellectual History and published a biography of the Egyptologist E. A. Wallis Budge. He teaches meditation at The Yoga Place in Midland.

A 90 minute vinyasa based yoga flow, accessible to any level. No experience required. (10:00am)
A 30 minute guided meditation. Relax and restore to round out this mindful experience. (12:00pm)

All events will be held at the Petoskey Waterfront, Bayfront Park.
Toby will be leading this workshop with a theme on Taoist Yang Yoga.
Taoist Yang, is a style of Chinese influenced yoga, infused with proper energy focus and fluid movements. This style is very congruent to Hatha Vinyasa, with similar poses and breathwork, easy to pick up and understand for any yoga experience level. Included also, is the incorporation of seasonal approaches and salutation inspiration to this afternoon together. A light-hearted and self-nurturing hour and a half+, to absorb in, and center, the Universal Chi....
